seagull free crochet pattern

Free Crochet Pattern – Sammy the Seagull

Here in perfect time for the summer is our small fishing friend, Sammy the Seagull. I had the pleasure of traveling to Kiawah Island, SC with my family last month for a week-long beach trip. The island was beautiful and very quiet for a Carolina beach (I hope it stays that way but I trust you to keep it a secret too 😊). The truly unique thing about the island however was the abundance of wildlife. We saw many alligators, wild deer, dolphins, turtles, coyotes, foxes and of course seagulls. I also enjoy watching the seagulls try to sneak bread and french fries from beach-goers. That is why I made Sammy the Seagull with a fishing pole, so he could catch his own food and not steal yours. This pattern is great for not only beginners but crocheters of all levels. I always test out my new creations on my niece (my biggest fan) and this one made her giggle so I knew it was a winner. This little seagull would also make a great gift for any fish enthusiasts in your life!

MATERIALS & TOOLS

  • Yarn (WHITE, YELLOW, GRAY, ORANGE, BLACK, DARK BLUE, BLUE, GREEN, RED) I used Red Heart brand yarn, medium, 100% acrylic but feel free to use the yarn of your choosing, the size of your yarn will determine the final size of your PLUSH
  • Crochet hook (Size G, 4.0 mm)
  • Polyfil – fiber fill stuffing
  • WHITE EMBROIDERY THREAD
  • BLACK FELT, BLUE FELT
  • Sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker
  • Sewing pins

ABBREVIATIONS

  • Ch – chain
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Inc- single crochet increase (2 SC in each stitch)
  • Dec- decrease (I use the invisible decrease in all of my creations for a cleaner look)
  • SLST (SLIP STITCH)
  • BLO – crochet in the back loops only
  • Magic ring– Make a loop, leaving a long tail to work with. Insert hook in center of loop, yarn over and draw up a loop. Yarn over, pull through to make the first chain (this does not count as a stitch). Continue to crochet over the loop and tail with the number of stitches called for. There are many wonderful YouTube videos on how to make a magic circle if you are a visual learner!Always move your stitch marker to the last stitch in the round.

THIS PATTERN IS WORKED IN CONTINUOUS ROUNDS.
