Kermit the Frog Free Crochet Pattern – Amigurumi

I’ve always been a big fan of The Muppets which started when I was young. Every year at Christmastime, my family and I would love to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol together. I always felt a sense of nostalgia anytime I saw Kermit the Frog on TV or at Disney World. When I was in elementary school, we put on a production of A Christmas Carol. The kids stage version of the show is very similar to the Muppet version with similar songs and dialogue. My sister who is 3 years older than me was cast as Bob Cratchit. Unfortunately, a few days before the show she came down with pneumonia and could not perform in the show. I already knew some of her lines and songs so I jumped in as Bob Cratchit just days before our performances (the show must go on!). Years later, we always think of this story while watching The Muppets so I knew I had to make my own little crochet Kermit plush.

For this pattern, I used Premier Parfait Chunky yarn (which is my favorite yarn) for a soft pastel look. Click here to get Premier yarn for this project. If you enjoy this pattern, please give me a follow on social media and let me know what other free patterns you would love to see! Happy crocheting 🙂

MATERIALS & TOOLS

ABBREVIATIONS

  • CH – chain
  • SC – single crochet
  • INC – single crochet increase (2 SC in each stitch)
  • DEC – decrease (I use the invisible decrease in all of my creations for a cleaner look)
  • FO – fasten off
  • Magic ring – Make a loop, leaving a long tail to work with. Insert hook in the center of loop, yarn over, and draw up a loop. Yarn over, pull through to make the first chain (this does not count as a stitch). Continue to crochet over the loop and tail with the number of stitches called for. There are many wonderful YouTube videos on how to make a magic circle if you are a visual learner! Always move your stitch marker to the last stitch in the round.

THIS PATTERN IS WORKED IN CONTINUOUS ROUNDS.

FELT PIECES

-USING BLACK FELT, YOU WILL CUT OUT TWO EYE PIECES AS SEEN BELOW (YOU WILL SIZE IT DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF YOUR EYES BUT MINE MEASURES ABOUT 1 INCH LONG FOR EACH)

-USING GREEN FELT, YOU WILL CUT OUT AN OCTAGON AND CUT A HOLE IN THE MIDDLE FOR THE COLLAR. YOU WILL THEN NEED TO MAKE A CUT BETWEEN 2 OF THE TRIANGLES SO YOU CAN WRAP THE COLLAR AROUND KERMIT’S NECK (MY OCTAGON MEASURES ABOUT 4 INCHES ACROSS)

-USING RED FELT, YOU WILL CUT OUT A SMILE (SIZE DEPENDS ON THE FINAL SIZE OF YOUR HEAD BUT MINE MEASURES ABOUT 2.5 INCHES LONG AND 0.8 INCHES TALL)

-USING PINK FELT, CUT OUT A TONGUE TO PLACE ON TOP OF THE MOUTH (MINE MEASURES 1.5 INCHES LONG)

ASSEMBLY:

-SEW THE BODY ONTO THE HEAD, CENTERED WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE BODY

-SEW ARMS TO BOTH SIDES OF BODY, RIGHT WHERE HEAD AND BODY MEET

-SEW LEGS TO BOTTOM OF BODY

-SEW EYES TO THE TOP OF THE HEAD, SLIGHTLY FORWARD AND 3 ROWS FROM THE CENTER, LIGHTLY STUFFING

-GLUE OR SEW BLACK FELT PIECES TO THE EYES

-GLUE OR SEW RED MOUTH PIECE TO THE FRONT OF THE FACE, 3 ROWS DOWN FROM THE EYES

-GLUE OR SEW THE PINK TONGUE ON TOP OF THE RED MOUTH

-WRAP THE COLLAR AROUND THE NECK AND SECURE THE OCTAGON CIRCLE BY GLUING OR SEWING IT BACK TOGETHER
