No-Sew Caterpillar “Lovebug” Plush Crochet Pattern – Amigurumi

Hey crochet besties, it’s almost time for one of my favorite holidays, Valentine’s Day! I think crocheting Valentines-themed plushies is one of my favorite things because you get to use beautiful colors like pinks, purples & reds. Also, crocheting little hearts just makes me smile. I knew I had to design a new cute heart-themed pattern for you all, so I bring you a Valentine’s caterpillar plush, or a “lovebug.” The best part is it is completely no-sew, for all my sewing-adverse friends 😉 It’s like the Jonas Brothers said in their song “Lovebug”: “Finally found the missing part of me.” Well, consider this pattern the missing part of your crochet makes. Let’s grab a heart-shaped treat, a cup of rose petal tea, turn on our favorite love songs, and make this Valentine’s Day extra special with these cute caterpillars. Get your hooks ready, and let the lovebug crafting begin! 🐛💖

If you prefer PDF patterns with no ads or just want to support me as an artist, the PDF for this pattern is available for purchase here.

For this pattern, I used Premier Parfait Chunky yarn (which is my favorite yarn) for a soft pastel look. Click here to get Premier yarn for this project. If you enjoy this pattern, please give me a follow on social media and let me know what other free patterns you would love to see! MATERIALS & TOOLS

ABBREVIATIONS

  • CH – chain
  • SC – single crochet
  • INC – single crochet increase (2 SC in each stitch)
  • DEC – decrease (I use the invisible decrease in all of my creations for a cleaner look)
  • BLO – crochet in the back loops only
  • SLST – slip stitch
  • FO – fasten off
  • Magic ring (MR) – Make a loop, leaving a long tail to work with. Insert the hook in the center of the loop, yarn over, and draw up a loop. Yarn over, and pull through to make the first chain (this does not count as a stitch). Continue to crochet over the loop and tail with the number of stitches called for. There are many excellent YouTube videos on how to make a magic circle if you are a visual learner! Always move your stitch marker to the last stitch in the round.

THIS PATTERN IS WORKED IN CONTINUOUS ROUNDS.

THIS PATTERN USES THE “NO-SEW” METHOD TO ATTACH ALL BODY PARTS

HOW TO ATTACH PIECES WITH THE “NO-SEW” METHOD:

STEP 1: INSERT YOUR HOOK THROUGH BOTH OF THE STITCHES OF THE SEPARATE PIECE AS WELL AS THE STITCH ON THE BODY.

STEP 2: DO A SINGLE CROCHET THROUGH ALL STITCHES, CONTINUE DOING AS MANY SINGLE CROCHETS AS THE PATTERN CALLS FOR TO ATTACH THE BODY PART.
